Terns Collection of Paintings

Terns are slender, graceful water birds in the same family as gulls.  Compared with gulls, they are more slender, shorter legged, and longer winged.  Terns live along coastline and inland waters.  They range in color from white to black and to almost entirely black. The bill of various species may be black, red, or yellow, while the feet are red or black. Their feet are webbed. Most species have long and pointed wings, forked tails, and sharply pointed bills.  The bulk of their diet consists of crustaceans and small fish, which they catch by diving through the air and plunging into the water.
They live in open habitats and breed in noisy colonies ... laying their eggs on bare ground with little or no nest material.
