Stilt Shorebird Collection of Paintings

Everything about the Stilt seems delicate,  from its incredibly thin pink stilt-legs  to its slim wings and its needle-like bill.   They are elegant birds with variably Black and white plumage.  Yet they manage to thrive in searing climates around brackish or saline wetlands, where they probe in mud and weedy shallows for crustaceans and other small aquatic animals.  Typically nest in loose colonies.  If predators approach, several adults may fly to a spot some distance away and perform a distracting display.  Nest sites are on bare open ground near water.  Stilts eggs are buff heavily blotched with with brown and black.  On very hot days, adults may go to water and wet belly feathers to cool eggs.
