Barbara Fallenbaum's Original Oil Painting of a Gypsy Hen protecting her young on the streets of Key West.
Chickens that roam the streets of Key West are descendants of jungle fowl that originated in Cuba and the Caribbean islands. They were brought to the island as food and for gaming. Many escaped their enclosures or were released when gaming became illegal. Now you find them everywhere…restaurants, stores, beach, poolside you name it they are there in all their colorful glory. We saw this trio on one of our visits, thought they were so cute I couldn't resist painting them.
