Original Oil Painting of a White Morphed Reddish Egret. Long-legged, long-necked wader, more tied to salt water than any of the other herons or egrets. They draw attention by their feeding behavior; running through shallows with long strides, staggering sideways, leaping in air, raising one or both wings and abruptly stabbing at fish. At other times they Shadow Fish. Reddish Egrets are colorful creatures, they are either dark morphed or white morphed for life. The dark morph is more common. White morphs are similar to other egrets, except for a larger bill with the pinkish base. The Reddish Egret is on the endangered species list as they did not repopulated as well from the plume hunters of the 1800s.
