Original Oil painting by Barbara Fallenbaum. They are born naked, helpless and blind. They are usually mature enough to survive and fly away at about 14 weeks. At 7-8 weeks they are mature enough to move around the nest and start preparing to learn how to fly. As they start to grow in their feather, they come in almost white with feathers on the head. As they mature further they start losing the head feathers and their diet influences their coloration turning it from pale pink to almost magenta at times. Saw this little one at Ft. Desoto Park early one morning.
